Christma holiday is coming. I have planned to use this opportunity to backup some important files (>100GB); the best tool is, of course, DVD R; but problems are that there are two types of DVD discs: DVD-R and DVD+R.
I have used DVD-R for months, but never tried DVD+R.
Is there any difference between them?
Some said DVD-R will be replaced by DVD+R in the future, is it true?
Any ideas?
Nothing I've heard would indicate that one format or the other is being replaced any time soon. As for the difference, I'm no expert. From what I've read, it has to do with how the DVD disk is created, and what sort of writer it's compatible with. I have a DVD writer on my system that writes both formats, but a home recorder (stand alone) that will only use -R.

The main difference is that DVD+R may have multiple layers burned on one disc, while DVD-R may not. But, that difference may be settled as (don't quote me on this) I think DVD-R's have adapted dual-layer ability. Another large difference is that DVD+R is supposed to burn faster.
Other differences include DVD+R being less supported in regular DVD players than DVD-R. Price is also a major difference. DVD+R is also supported by different companies than DVD-R.
