Bear, I have purchased a "Creative Sound Blaster - audigy 4", which costs me around US$90.
I have installed it physically, but during the software installation process, several alerts appear saying "the Windows version is incompatible..."
When I look at the user guide, I see its minimum requirement of Windows supported are XP SP2 or Win2k SP4, but not XP SP1.
I wonder which version is the latest version - XP SP1 or Win2K SP4?

XP should be better than Win2k, but I don't know why the software can support Win2K Sp4 but not XP SP1!

Now that the card has been installed and the software is well configured, although there are several alerts poping up during the installation process.
I could notice there is a change in the sound quality...

As for the difference between an external USB sound card and internal one, the staff tells me the internal sound card should be better than an external one, the internal sound card supports more functions, proceed faster...

Win2K and XP are obviously 2 different OS', so you can't really compare them to each other. If it needs SP2 to run properly I'd suggest doing so, but if it's running fine without, I wouldn't bother. SP2 is known for breaking things...

Why would an internal work faster? Connection speed to the CPU, mostly. Internal BUS speeds will nearly always be faster than via USB. As for more functions...I've no idea why.

Did your PC have Photoshop installed, I have heard that XP SP2 doesn't support many softwares, and Photoshop is just one of them.

I really don't want to try SP2, as it's got more bad news than good news!

As for the sound blaster, I have just unistalled the whole software from the PC, not only because of its big file (~1GB), but also due to the strange sound (horrible noise, I can't describe for that)... :hammer3:

I have learnt a lesson!

Thanks for your support, bear!

A 1GB driver file? Something sounds wrong there...(no pun intended). ;)

Yes, two discs included in the package!

I have checked the "Add and Reomve" in the control panel and see that the two creative software occupied around 1 GB place.
