How can I know if my PC's motherboard is a VIA based one?

I have read an article saying "crackle-sound is a common problem with Sound Blaster sound cards and VIA based motherboard chipsets. Try updating the VIA chipset drivers in Windows, this often fixes the sound. Also try updating your sound card drivers".

You can take the make and model of the motherboard and search on it at the maker's site or even in Google. You should have this information available at the maker's website, or perhaps in the manual that came with it, it you have that.

I have searched the motherboard and find something about the chipset :
Springdale i865PE.

Could you tell me if this is a VIA based chipset or not?

Would appear to be an Intel chipset.
