Why does windows 98..

If i leave my computer sit for like an hour or so and i get back on it is very slow but if my mouse is active it stays fune for hours on hours but if i go afk for an hour or so my computer will freese this makes stuff like bit torrents almost impossible also this happens to evrey windows 98 pc i have ever used but why? I hear it is becase of memory leaks how do i stop this?

Change the OS? ;)
All a memory leak will do is to use up any available system memory, meaning you will be writing and reading directly from disk instead of RAM. If it is caused by a Win98 memory leak, then there's nothing you can really do for it, apart from patching the OS as best you can (and with EOL support for the OS, that's not too likely).
I've never experienced that with any Win98 PC, so maybe it's something you install on them?

Are you sure the computer isn't just going into sleep mode or something? Some power schemes will slow the HDD or otherwise power down to save energy when not in use...that's not a memory leak.

As for the slowdown, it keeps sounding to me like the system is powering down the HDD some to save on power. How old is the HDD?

2000ish 30 gb I have been in the power management tab in the controll panel all is set to never. So that it is always on.
