If you're having trouble getting a local area network (LAN) to function, it sometimes becomes necessary to determine what IP address your computer has been assigned by the router. Here are the steps to quickly determine the settings currently in use.
Go the "start" in the Windows taskbar and left click
Find "run" and left click
Type the following: "ipconfig /all" (no "quotes") into the text box marked "Open"
Hit the Enter key on the keyboard
This should show your current settings, and will look something like this (personal info replaced by *'s, and important bits bolded)
